Description

Located on the northwest coast of Lake Argentino, at the end of the Cristina Arm, Estancia Cristina keeps a unique corner in the Los Glaciares National Park. Founded in 1914 by Joseph P. Masters and his wife, Estanciaaún retains its essence, keeping alive the history of this pioneer family, which with effort and perseverance, made this inhospitable and solitary place, a small paradise; your home.
The Upsala Glacier, located a few kilometers from the Estancia, is one of the most important in Los Glaciares National Park. Sailing the Argentino Lake between icebergs and mountains and then visiting Estancia Cristina, is transformed into a perfect combination of nature, adventure, history and pleasure.
Our transfer begins to look for the passengers, starting at 7:00 am through the lobby of the hotel / inn in El Calafate. The presentation time at Puerto Bandera (Pier National Parks) is at 08:15 a.m. without exception.
Those who arrive at port on their own should respect this schedule.
There is a 4x4 crossing of 9.5 km. by mountain road, crossing a landscape that until recently was covered by glaciers. You arrive at the refuge of Continental Ice and from there you start a walk
20 minutes approximately until you reach the Upsala Viewpoint with views of Lake Guillermo and the imposing Eastern Front of the Upsala Glacier, the Southern Patagonian Ice, and the Murallón and Don Bosco Hills.
From here begins the trekking to enter the Cañadón de los Fósiles, an area where there is a large concentration of marine fossils from a remote period before the formation of the Andes. The trekking is of constant descent until arriving at the valley of the river; already at the bottom of it, we will continue trekking downstream through an almost flat terrain through old grazing fields, reed ponds and ñires forests until arriving at the Estancia pier and embarking again. The lunch will be taken during the trek, in the Cañadón.
Important: This trekking, due to the physical requirement and difficulty of the terrain, is only suitable for people with good physical condition, considering that it will walk on irregular terrain.
In the event that the excursion coordinator of Estancia Cristina determines that the passengers who have chosen this activity are not in adequate physical conditions to do so or lack the appropriate clothing to carry out the trek, they can not develop it, not accepting claims or any refund.
