DescriptionWe start the pick-up by the hotels at 07:30 am, to arrive at the start area at 09:30 am, at the abandoned hostel on route 40 Luz Divina.
There is a talk about the equipment to be used and the safety rules. We deliver to the participants the technical equipment (neoprene suit, neoprene boots, cockpit covers, semi-dry jacket, life jacket, cold gloves and helmet) and a waterproof bag so that they can store their belongings and food. Once dressed we regulate the kayaks (the passengers go in double kayaks and the guides in simple), and we carry out a training on safety and evacuation, rowing forward and backward. turns and brakes and the operation of the river is explained to them.
The security and rescue maneuvers are practiced out of the water. One guide helps them up and the other guide receives them and gathers the group in the river.
Once the entire group is in the water, the maneuvers are practiced and the rowing begins.
The guides are permanently assisting the participants, checking the form of paddling and safety. They are shown the functioning of the river and geomorphology of the area.
The first kayak trip has an approximate duration of 1.15 hours (8km).
In the area of Cerro Fortaleza (estancia La Meseta) we stop for lunch and trek down Cerro Los Hornos to a viewpoint where you can see petrified bones and trunks. Time for lunch and the walk 2 hours.
After a time of rest we go back up to the kayaks to make the last stretch observing the geological formations and the steppe vegetation until El Turbio Stream where we will see the vehicle to take us back to Calafate. Duration of the second kayak trip 1 hour (6km). Arrival time to the muddy Arroyo 15hs. Approximate arrival time to Calafate 16: 30hs.
